Oceans Of Fire (2005) - Plot & Excerpts

Abigail "Abbey" Drake, the third in the series of seven sisters, after a tragic incident four years ago, doesn't trust her magic anymore. The traumatic experience has turned her into a loner, and she spends most her time with her sisters and even more swimming with dolphins. One evening, after returning from one such swim, she witnesses a murder, resulting in her being briefly held at gunpoint, staring into deep blue eyes she left behind four years ago.Alexandr Volstov, Interpol agent and then some, had two reasons for coming to America. One was to uncover the criminal organization smuggling antiques from Russia. The other was to try and win back the heart of the only woman he's ever loved, the only woman who could bring him peace, Abbey. On the adventurous journey to find the smugglers... and the path back into each other's embrace... they'll have to deal with six meddling sisters, one meddling aunt, a Russian crime lord trying to get a dirty bomb into the US and a Russian hotshot hit man with his own agenda.I've been a fan of Christine Feehan's for a long time and though I've grown quite bored lately with her Dark Series, the Drake Sisters still hold a certain appeal.... Mostly, because I'm dying to read Ilya Prakenskii's (Joley Drake's) book, but I have to catch up first. There is not much I could say went wrong with this book. The story was plausible (yes, even the magick part), the characters three-dimensional and "real", the dialogue was snappy, and the funny scenes, though sporadic at best, were to-pee-your-pants-funny.I'll admit I read this kind of stories, because of the heroes (although I never thought a Russian accent sexy - but I guess you have to look at the whole package *wink*) and Alexandr "Sasha" Volstov was a hero with a capital H. I just love it when they go all stubborn and male and refuse to back down. He came for the girl, he would get the girl or die trying. It was the girl in question that was (a little) annoying. I know, she's lived through a traumatic experience and what she thought was betrayal by the man she loved, but the whole "I'm hurting so I'll hurt you as well" got a little old a little too fast. I mean, cut the guy some slack, read his letters, for Pete's sake!Other than that little hiccup in the story (eventually she came around and the two had two extremely scorching scenes together), I have absolutely nothing to object.I got my Prakenskii fix, so I'm happy, I guess.

What do You think about Oceans Of Fire (2005)?

"our friends were changing who they were and what they believed in just to have a boy like them.""she had given him everything she was, everything she'd ever wanted to be. she had given so much of what she was, she had nothing left when he'd thrown her so carelessly away.""i rarely allow myself to feel guilt. its such an exhausting and wasteful emotion. it can actually be self indulgent and some people get caught up in wallowing in guilt. i prefer to move forward and live my life.""women need confidence at times; just as many people carry a talisman and think it brings luck, the extra boost made our friend, and anyone using the ritual, as silly as it is, feel beautiful and confident. every time you put on the red lace underwear you cant help but remember the ceremony and it makes you laugh , so you glow and thats attractive as well. it all works on a womans confidence.""you have a temper and you're quite capable of retaliating when someone has upset you. thats why you walk away. you're so afraid of what you might do."

Christine Feehan’s Oceans of Fire is the 3rd book in her Drake Sisters series. It focuses on Abigail Drake and her romance with Russian spy Alexandr. All the Drake women have cool powers, and Abigail is no exception: she can force people to speak the truth and know when they’re lying. In fact, she used that skill to help Alexandr in the past. But it ended in disaster and split them apart, until their paths crossed again in Sea Haven.PLOT SPOILERS:Not only can Abigail work her truth-mojo, she can communicate with animals –and she loves working with dolphins. She was out on her boat, when she accidentally witnessed the murder of an Interpol agent… Alexandr’s partner. She sees her old lover for the first time in years and all the memories come back. Alexandr had never stopped loving her. Never stopped searching for her, although Abigail thought he had abandoned her after their disaster in Russia. The story branches out beyond just the whodunnit, into the intrigue of a smuggling ring and the Russian mob. Here we meet the mysterious Ilya Prakenskii who will later get his own book with sister Joley Drake.WHAT WORKS:The relationship between Joley and Alexandr. The love between them is tangible. His past is pitiful. And the sexual tension is masterful.WHAT DIDN’T:It’s hard to keep all those sisters straight when you’re first getting to know them all. I had some trouble with that. Also, I wasn’t a big fan of all the dolphin stuff, but the high-points in the book made up for it.OVERALL:Steamy and sexy. I never knew how much I could want to meet a hot Russian. 4 stars.
