Otis is a story of friendship between a tractor and a lonely calf and how they overcome being replaced on the farm. The story has a nice message of how everyone has value, but there are many parts to the story and could be confusing to smaller children. The illustrations are beautiful and go well with the story. This book is not one a child could read on their on, but would have to have read to them. I would use this story to help impress upon students that everyone has value and are needed, and to treat others with kindness. Otis is a book about a tractor named Otis who lives on a farm. One day the farmer gets a new tractor and Otis is put into the barn for storage and forgotten about. Otis becomes every sad that no one ever uses him anymore. One day the cow gets stuck in the mud and the farmer tries to pull him out with the new tractor but is not successful. Otis hopes he has a chance to help save the day and prove his worth. This is a cute story that can be used to teach kids about being thankful for what they have. It can also be paired with books about friendships.
Two unlikely friends. There's one part I find pretty sad, but we love this one.
