Ouvre Ce Petit Livre (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is about different types of animals that each have books that correspond with the color that matches them best. For example the ladybug has a red book and the frog has a green book. It is an interactive book because you keep closing books inside the book until you get to the middle then it goes backwards again and goes through all the animals. It is repetitive so the reader can remember who had what book. It was a really cool book and I know that kids would love it. It is different from other books because it gets smaller as you go to the middle then from the middle to end it gets bigger. It is also very colorful and has adorable pictures. Critique: This was a very simple book but also creative in a way. It read from the inside out and was very repetitive. I think it is a good book for young readers because they can associate color to the correct animal. It may be too simple for older elementary students. Reading Level: Kindergarten This book is about the command of opening a book, starting off with telling the reader to open the book. It then continues to go through a list of different creatures that are to open the book and read about someone else opening a book and so on. The book then starts to end with all the creatures closing their books and the reader is instructed to close that little book as well and open a new one. The message of this book is to get kids enthused about reading, to pique the interest of reading through the wide variety of stories available. The illustrations for this book were really forceful for getting the message of the story known. Each book was named a different color, and the cover color corresponded to the title. The pages were designed to look like little books; with each page turned, another book was opened. This book was rather short, but concise. Any book that is geared towards children reading more is a must for the classroom in my opinion and this book would be a great fit for the classroom library. Children will enjoy reading this book, and if the message is conveyed as the author intended, students will be back to the shelves picking another off.
