Paper Phoenix: A Mystery Of San Francisco In The '70s (A Classic Cozy--with Romance!) (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I could list this under historic as well as mystery because it's set in 1970s San Francisco. I didn't---it reads like a current mystery. Maggie, is suddenly dropped by her husband. He has a new, younger model to grace the proper clubs and parties for the business man on the go. When the editor of a small newspaper turns up dead, Maggie remembers her ex, Richard the Rat, telling someone he (the editor) soon wouldn't be a problem.Aha, that finally gets her out of her funk. There's got to be something more there---and there is. Wouldn't she just love to find him mixed up in something murderous, or, at least, illegal. But when she and the much younger man who takes the dead editor's place get too close, Richard pulls out all the stop, as in, tell their college daughter that her mother is loosing it. And, when daughter learns Mom has a thing for the younger man, that tears it (despite the fact that Daddy is allowed his younger woman). There, that's a start. Now, go read it to find what else happens. (You'll be glad you did.)

Michaela Thompson is on tour now with CLP Blog Tours and Paper PhoenixI’ve been reading a lot of mystery books lately, and I can’t say I’m sad about it. I really enjoy them, so I was eager to pick up Paper Phoenix, as it would be my first from author Michaela Thompson. The beginning started off a little slow for me, but as the chapters progressed I got more and more interested in the story. It’s a quick read without too many possible suspects to keep track of, but I was still a little surprised when the identity of the killer was revealed. There wasn’t a big bang about it, and it almost ended too quietly for my liking. An interesting read still, and if you like mystery I think you could enjoy this one.
