Peck, Peck, Peck (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is a picture book. The age group intended is N-P. This book is about a wood pecker whose father is teaching him how to peck. The young woodpecker goes around practicing on everything he can find, and by the end of the story most of the things in the house now have holes in them. The little wood pecker, pecked so much he tired himself out. I rated this book a three because I thought it was a cute childrens book. Its showing us that it takes practice before you get the hang of something. The author used good rhymes that keep you reading. The pictures in the book would be wonderful for children to follow along. On the different pages you see h different holes that the wood pecker made which the children could have fun keeping track of. This would be a good book if you are trying to teach counting. A book for toddlers. A young woodpecker learns to peck, and proceeds to peck holes in everything in a neighboring house, but there is no consideration that the woodpecker is not where he belongs and is ruining other people's belongings. The pages are die cut and the holes make sense on the right side do the page, but on the reverse the holes are just holes that the words avoid. It is cute, but I am not sure why it got starred reviews.
