Pegasus And The Fight For Olympus (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Once again, a fantastic, beautiful story that sucks you in and doesn't let go till the final page. I don't know if the story was *quite* as good as Pegasus and the Flame, but it was still fantastic. I love Pegasus so much. And I thought O'Hearn did a great job of showing how her characters grew up through the story. Particularly Cupid. He starts out as a vapid creepazoid but he gains a LOT of depth in the short amount of pages in the book. Action packed. Great writing. Fun story. Fantastic characters. What's not to love? I need to own this entire series. It's one I will be reading over and over again - and one I can't wait to share with my son someday. I'd read several of the author's other books. The first book in this series and another series, about dragons. I'd liked both of them and was happy to pick this one up to try.Emily found and helped Pegasus when there was a terrible storm caused by Nirads invading Olympus and overcoming the gods. Pegasus opens a whole new, magical world for Emily. In the end she escaped CRU, Nirads, and escaped to Olympus to save the Olympians...by sacrificing herself and becoming the Flame of Olympus. Now the Nirads are attacking again and Emily and her friends return to the human world to find her father who last seen in the CRU's possession. They captured Emily, Pegasus and everyone else and tortured them for information about the Nirads and Olympians. So they will try to save him. However they are soon in danger and their plans have gone awry. Emily begins to understand the reason behind the Nirads attacks...secrets she never imagined are unraveling before her!Pros:This is all sorts of "feels" mixed in together. While it feels more like modern day fantasy adventure it has mythology and roman gods thrown in as well! It's really interesting and original. I've never read a mythology book like this series! It's newer ideas churned into the old myths. And it doesn't feel limited to middle grade when you are reading it. I mean sure at other times it doesn't feel as "serious" or "mature" as young adult books...but the adventure and plot and excitement is certainly up to par when it comes to comparisons with YA genres. The characters were alright, I liked them pretty well.Cons:I never got an age for the characters. Or the main ones, Emily and her friends. Sometimes they seemed older than, in another minute, younger. And that bugged me :/ We never really got told (or I missed it). Otherwise the plot and story and all were fine.Content wise there was a little boy/girl crushes and like one kiss. Some violence (battles, injuries, death, and kidnapping), magical powers and mythological creatures and gods.Overall, this is a wonderful, adventurous book that draws a strange picture of something in between middle grade and young adult genres. The adventure is YA-like and the rest more MG-like. Who knows? It certainly won't bore slightly older readers. I would recommend to 11+ tweens who enjoy fantasy and mythology. Those who are looking for something after finishing Percy Jackson would be interesting (although it's quite different).

It was great. It was really hard to put down since there was always something going on!

Would've rated it higher if Tange didn't die and Joel hadn't lost his arm and ear.
