Pearl in the Sand is my first Tessa Afshar book and I LOVED it! Rich characters brought to life the story from the Bible about Rahab hiding the Israeli spies. Seeing and understanding Rahab's point of view starts out poignant with the dark survival of being a prostitute. Saved from the annilation of her people and growing knowledge of real love and her value are pivotal to her. Ultimately capturing the essence of her pearl turns everything radiant in her life. Walking out a mindset change was both inspiring and incredibly challenging. Rahab is brought into Israel and is in the lineage of King David and ultimately, Jesus. Her faith is remembered to this day.Vivid pictures were drawn in my mind of the city of Jericho and Rahab's home in it's walls. The Israeli camp and lifestyle made a vivid contrast to all that we have come to expect today. I was are captivated by the culture, the motivating people and their impact on history.Rahab's life story is forever changed with decision to risk it all. What do I know of risk? Without risk, survival holds not just predictability, but also despair.I listened to this book on Audible and it was excellent. This is a beautiful story that that entertains, teaches and inspires. The stories of Rahab and the other women of Jesus' lineage have always piqued my curiosity. Tessa Afshar does a great job developing a believable story for Rahab. I also really enjoyed reading about life in the time of Joshua and the Israelites as they took the land of Canaan. This book also helped me understand God and the Bible more too. I look forward to reading more by Tessa Afshar.
