Psycho Killer (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I wish I could rate this book at a negative star. It was so bad. I was HIGHLY disappointed that the author couldn't make up a whole new story for this "thriller." Why would she EVEN take the first book in the series and turn everything around to make it "scary?" First off, it's what I would like to call LAZY. Second, it wasn't even scary. Most of it was actually disgusting. It was gross to read about how Jenny liked to eat raw meat and it was gross to read about the gory details of someone being murdered. Not to mention, it was poorly written. There was also nothing new. The author failed at trying to make Serena and Blaire into serial killers and the ending I can't even tell you how much I disliked. What I don't understand, however, is that the killings were performed in public settings and yet no police were ever involved? What kind of world do you live in Cecily von Ziegesar? A very angry one I imagine. That's all the characters really were, were angry and the only way they could satisfy their anger was murder.I hope no one even picks this one up to read. HIGHLY DISLIKED. Gossip Girl. You know I love you. xoxo.I feel like you have to have read the original book to actually enjoy this one. It started out the exact same way, with a few murder puns thrown in - actually, a ton of them. It was pun overkill (couldn't help myself). These murder innuendoes were sometimes perfect, but almost always unnecessary and annoying. Witty example: Pretending not to be the biggest gossip in the room when you so obviously were was like standing in a room full of slashed-up corpses with a bloody hunting knife in your hand and demanding, "Who did this?" (22)Terrible, unnecessary example: "This Friday. I want to do it this Friday." She lifted her chin and gazed up into Nate's pretty green eyes. Every time she got this close to him she could not stop smiling. "It's going to be Friday the thirteenth," she added kinkily. (115)....I'm sorry. That line is just plain fucking stupid. Lines like that popped up throughout the book, and all I had to do was sigh and continue.A good amount of the beginning was a reread, with additions of the murder puns, and it was okay. It made me angry when some of my favorite scenes were changed, like when Nate and Serena lost their virginity. I got over it. I was shocked, absolutely SHOCKED when the murder scenes started to come up. We got a small taste in the beginning, when Serena was looking back on her murders at boarding school. When Serena and Blair kill people within the book? Everything gets CRAZY. Disturbing, expensive or impromptu murder weapons, shock value everywhere! The murder scenes were my favorite parts. They were insane. None of the murders left a grim taste, they were kind of funny. Gory, but funny, like a Saw movie on The Upper East Side. The last murder was my favorite (Although they killed off my favorite character), it was perfectly satisfying. This book is enjoyable, and like the original, not to be take seriously. Although there were some parts that irked me, it was overall enjoyable."Real life is stranger than fiction"(21) - This is my favorite line. 'Stranger than Fiction' is also, coincidentally a book title from my favorite author, Chuck Palahniuk. Go figure.

This book is such a tongue and cheek this is slayed me (wow bad pun). I have read the whole GG series and also read American Psycho. So I figured who doesn't enjoy reading the gruesome details about the wealthy killing each other. This book is so over the top and ridiculous that it makes so a quick entertaining read. If you are looking for some in depth, meteorically, thought provoking read, this is not the book. But if sometimes you read a lot of that thought provoking stuff and need your brain to just have a good belly laugh this book fits the bill. Also I mean who didn't sometimes think about how annoying the characters in GG were and how really it would be easier if they were just dead (I'm looking at you Little J).
