Rapture Of The Deep: Being An Account Of The Further Adventures Of Jacky Faber, Soldier, Sailor, Mermaid, Spy (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This Jacky story wasn't as exciting as some of the others. Jacky and Jaimy were very close to getting married and then it didn't happen, of course. That was frustrating. We get to see much more of Jaimy in this book than in any of the others except the first book. He is still a somewhat flat and boring character but at least he and Jacky got to be together for a little while before they had to part again. Another frustrating thing that happened that lost this book half a star was Jacky and the cockfighting. She makes a really big effort to explain why she doesn't like bullfighting and that all seems fine. But then in the same chapter, she explains that she's ok with cockfighting and commences to get involved with it, using one of her chickens to kill other people's chickens. I felt that the book could've done without this, since it doesn't make sense to have her be against bull fighting but not cock fighting. The whole thing was stupid and it should have been removed from the book since it didn't add anything to the story.I am also getting really sick of Jacky always constantly almost getting raped. That is getting really really old. Not something that I would expect in a young adult book either. She is also really really slutty. She prances around and shows off too much. She is also always kissing or snuggling some other guy, even when Jaimy is nearby. It's like she doesn't love Jaimy at all and doesn't understand what cheating is. Ugh, so dumb. 3.5 out of 5 stars since this one wasn't as exciting and had some parts that I really didn't like. Which was disappointing since I thought this book had the best cover, I thought the story would be awesome too. On to the next book and hopefully the next one will be better. This particular adventure reinforced how much more I enjoy Jaimy as an idea in Jackie's head than in reality. I can't stand them as a couple, and that was a distraction in this particular book. There's plenty of fun here, as usual, but I was constantly annoyed by the typical YA lame "romance" elements that diluted the overall story, and the obsession over maintaining Jacky's virginity is getting to be a little much.
