I grew up around redwood trees and have always been amazed by them. This book definitely is a great way to educate children about the tallest living plants on Earth. The book starts with a young boy getting on a train while reading about the history of redwood trees. everything from the size of a redwood seed to the amazing sizes they can grow to is discussed. the boy walks around the forest with his mouth open wide in astonishment. I think that if you were to read this book to an elementary aged class, they would be amazed as well. The pictures are realistic, showing the heights of these trees in comparison to other common objects like the Statue of Liberty and sky skyscrapers so you can get a true idea of their height. Great book! Redwoods is an excellent science book. It is written with words that are illustrated displaying their past with people or things from the past. It describes the life of a redwood and how much larger they are that other trees by giving excellent examples that children can understand. For example, a car being able to drive through a hollowed tree. It talks about how they survive through fires and how they gather water for themselves and other plants around them. The illustrations are colorful and will hold the interest of any child. I especially enjoyed the very end where another child came and gathered the book. Great science book.
I always thought redwoods were interesting but this book shows I had no idea!
