Roger Ascham And The King's Lost Girl (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Not a bad novella, although I fail to see how it enhances The Tournament in any way, in some ways it helps to see the poor skills of the King, but other than that, it feels like a rushed chapter about Roger saving some women, for nothing basically. Nothing would have changed if he didnt save them, but he did and they live and no one even acknowledged it. I understand, that isn't the point of the tale, but it seems like he went through an awful amount of trouble for the king to leave and not care about the woman he wanted Roger to find. All in all nice novella, doesn't add much to The Tournament, doesn't take away from it either, all hard core Reilly fans will love this. I do confess I read this because it was a free kindle book courtesy of the author, so the least I could do was indulge myself in the prequel to his next book, The Tournament. It's a really short story so not much time for character development but lots of action. It served as a conduit to his next book very nicely. We meet the marvellous Roger Ascham, Henry V111th, and of course Elizabeth.I'm a sucker for historical novels so I knew i would enjoy this one. Couldnt rate it higher bc it was so short.

What do You think about Roger Ascham And The King's Lost Girl (2013)?

Much too short, and the ending wasn't surprising at all but overall it was a good read.

Catches the atmosphere but the denouement seems a little too plain..
—hector5

Simplistic, with zero subtlety and a caricaturish villain.

Interesting but rather short prequel to the tournament.

Short & sweet.
