The house was set behind an iron gate among artfully clustered palms. Grecian columns fronted a sweeping staircase guarded by two stone Great Danes. Gleaming white porches ran the length of two floors. Tree parked the Beetle outside the wall and came through the gate along the drive. The air filled with the low rattle of cicadas.
