Macon's Story is an a short read. Macon and Wade are in a strong relationship but the angst comes from their being gay in a small religious town. On top of that Wade works for his dad on the family ranch and his dad is extremely critical of Wade's sexual orientation. Wade is in the closet. The story revolves around Wade and whether he'll let public opinion and his family's views determine his happiness. So yes, Macon's Story is mainly told by Wade and is all about Wade's dealing with coming out. Macon was willing to give up everything to be with Wade yet Wade had so much to shift through before he could get to the same place. This story was all about the aftermath. Everything was already experienced, this story was to get both men onto the next phase in their lives. Instead of excitement or adventure there's more emphasis on Wade's deepest thoughts. Macon is along for the ride, even with his disappointment in Wade. This was my first time reading this author and I liked this story. A new author for me. Notes:-Why make a point when you can make it thrice? Homophobia is a rather weary issue in MM for me by now, and this book doesn't bring anything new and fresh to the table, even if it does hammer it in a million times. Homophobia bad. We get it, but we're the choir, see?-I got zero attachment to the characters, who I am told are friends and lovers but was shown zilch evidence of it. This cut right to the chase thing is a format that works wonders in short stories, but the book barely convinces me that they are friends, much less lovers.-Way too much sex for so short a book. About 40% or so was sex.
