Running For My Life: One Lost Boy's Journey From The Killing Fields Of Sudan To The Olympic Games (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Wonderful isn't a word you can use to describe this book. The life or story of Lopez was amazing. He truly came a long way. This is to show you that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. He was captured from just a young boy to be a soldier in the civil war they were having. To escape and go through the things a six year old shouldn't go through, he did. He been in camps for about 10 years, until the big day came for him to go to America. He went through a program, and got foster parents that were willing to take care of him. The priest changed his name before he left to Joseph. Once he got to America, his whole life changed. He saw how privilege Americans are and how much they have. His family gave him a lifestyle of an American child. He had a dream to become a track star and take part in the Olympics. He won many races in high school and his mother pushed him to finish school. Joseph decide he wanted to pursue his dream and dropout of school. Joseph met his role model and other important people in the United States. Joseph meet his lover while he was training to compete in the Olympics. He felt that Brittney was the girl for him.Joseph did meet his biological mother in father in Sudan and wanted to help the people there. He went back to college to earn his degree. Once he did everything he wanted to, Lopez wanted to start a foundation for the people in Sudan. Overall this was a thrilling book, I would recommend this book to anyone. There are many life lessons you can get from reading Running For My Life. Great story! And super fun read! Recommend it to everyone. I love that it's a true story. And it was clean, so I can have my kids read it and open their view to the world and inspire them. The only reason I didn't give it 5 is because the quality of writing was lacking in some parts. He would repeat himself and info from his story constantly. The story is short and a quick read, so repetition of info was super unnecessary and got kinda old. But I liked that he didn't use huge or complicated words. That would have felt wrong and insincere. Great book!
