When Georgie Gail, telephone operator and bird lover, meets Luke Palmer, undercover Texas Ranger hot on the trail of a train robber, sparks fly as these two tangle. A woman ahead of her time, Georgie has her own way of doing things, and you’d best not get in her way! Unfortunately, Luke has the same personality trait, so when these two collide, the repercussions are felt by all around. Though the story is quite entertaining, full of colorful characters and secondary story lines, I found it terribly bogged down by the issue of using bird parts as hat decorations. I wanted to shout, “We get the idea – move on with the story!” The first part of novel trudges on, but the second half is much more enjoyable. I like the strong female character and her male counterpart, but somehow this book misses the mark. An interesting tale, but not one of Gist’s best efforts. Outstanding, cute, quirky and downright fun! It's easy to see by the cover that the story's heroine Georgie is one of the country's early crop of telephone operators. The hero is Lucious Landrum aka Luke Palmer, undercover Texas Ranger Telephone installer and repairman. Since my life was spent in this environment but certainly in the late 20th and early 21st century, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.LOVE ON THE LINE takes place at the turn of the century and has good old-fashioned romance and a light portion of crime and punishment. A truly delightful read!

This book was okay-- things I liked but some things I could guess too far in advance.

It was good as usual. I enjoy the sense of humor in Deeanne Gist's writting.

I love the time period but the storyline was a little slow.
