Bebe Loudermilk is pretty overwhelmed between her grandmother being in the hospital and her grandfather needing help, her restaurant to run and her rental properties needing sudden repairs. But along comes Reddy, a man she meets at a charity dance, who seems to be the answer to her problems. Who can resist a good looking, well-to-do man, so willing to help out. Of course the reader can see the train wreck before it happens and this guy takes Bebe for not just everything she has, but her grandparent’s savings as well. But Bebe is a fighter and she got where she is by dedication and hard work, so when finding out she’s the owner of the very run-down Breeze Inn, she’s going to make this work and vows to get her money and possessions back from the guy who stole them. Helping her is her best friend, Weezie, a person who turns junk into treasures, and Harry, the guy hired by the former owner to fix up the place in exchange for living at the inn for free during the renovations. And when they discover where Reddy has moved on to, the group, along with her grandfather, schemes to scam the con artist to get their money back.I’d never read a book by this author, but my friend had suggested I give this a try. Told from points of view alternating between Bebe and Weezie, all of the characters were both fun and interesting, as were the situations and challenges they encounter. I hadn’t realized this wasn’t the first book in the series when picking this up. It became evident that there was a prior book when reading it, but I didn’t have any problems following along when those prior events were brought up. Just made it intriguing enough to make me want to go back and read that first one. 3.5 stars
I got halfway through when I had to toss in the towel, right about the time the inn opened and her classmate showed up and the toilet backed up. I don't expect every character in every book to be a model of good nature and sweetness, but come on! WHY does BeBe put up with THAT degree of verbal abuse from the inn guy? I got tired of watching her get cussed out, again and again. This is the audio version of the book, and he comes across not just as mean, and disappointed in life, but a little psycho. What's this guy's redeeming qualities again? why hasn't he been kicked to the curb? And she starts coming across as a masochist! She's a business owner, a property owner. Her own woman. The character wouldn't have put up with that. She could stand up to her own friends, but not a stranger? If that was going to move in a romantic direction, I would have been plain disgusted. As it is, I just didn't want to waste any more time watching it happen. Left a bad taste in my mouth, for sure. Too bad because the plot seemed really interesting, but I couldn't take it anymore and quit. I wish the inn guy had taken an early powder.
What do You think about Savannah Breeze (2012)?
I truly enjoyed this book! It's not going to become a classic and it's not going to win any awards for great literature, but it was very well-written, the characters were three-dimensional and fun, and the plot had an excellent pacing to it. I didn't quite see the ending before it happened, so there was still a little element of surprise. To sum it up: Lemon meringue pie. The characters are sweet ladies, but they've got a little tart to them when you get their gander. The book was pretty fluffy and light in weight; a great beach read. This is the second book in a series, and I'd already read the third and fourth books... not sure how it escaped my notice that I'd missed a book. I enjoy the main characters and I love the setting (Savannah!) and I'll continue to read and recommend these books.

The first half of this book is really slow. It picks up once BeBe and company head to Florida. Though this book got rave reviews from other library patrons, I didn't like it. I couldn't like BeBe. I don't have anything in common with BeBe and found her hard to relate to. I found it hard to believe anyone could be that naive and trusting, especially after two ex-husbands and an ex-fiance. Her plan to get her money back is not at all legal and I could not believe that her friends would go along with it. I did not like the outcome of the story either. I also didn't think there was much chemistry between BeBe and the love interest. The romance was rushed and the ending very abrupt. Some of the story is told from Weezie's point of view. I enjoyed Weezie's character more than BeBe but her narrative interrupted the flow of the story. I would recommend this one for someone who is looking for escapist reading without much substance.
