Scaredy Squirrel Has A Birthday Party. Melanie Watt (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Scaredy Squirrel's birthday is coming up. He has to make sure the party is calm and safe, and the best way to do that is to be prepared...and only invite yourself. But when Squirrel's friend Buddy sends him a birthday card, Scaredy decides it would be polite to invite him to the party too. One guest shouldn't be too bad. But Buddy shows up with a few other friends, and Scaredy's plans are out the window. And though he's sure that should mean a disastrous birthday, it turns out much better than he ever expected and he decides maybe next year it'd be ok to invite more people again.Another fun installation in the Scaredy Squirrel series. The pictures are bright and lively for the younger crowd, while adults are the ones who will probably fully appreciate all the humor. Mommy's review from 11/20/11 - 2.5 - Wow, so everybody really loves this book huh? I'm glad I didn't hate it or I'd have to deal with a bunch of ignorant comments from ignorant people here on lovely GR but anyhoo....I guess I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a decent book IMO but far from great. There's a lesson or two able to be gleaned, the illustrations were somewhat unique to us, but that's about it. I guess Julia and I are more of the straight forward story type. We tend to dislike a lot of distractions, a lot of pauses for something other than the actual story. Are these books, and this character, what the cartoon is based on? I just saw a Scaredy Squirrel show on the guide and I'm struggling to believe it's a coincidence. Anyone know? My daughter did say that she really likes the cartoon so that's something I guess.I'm glad so many people loved it but it didn't reach that far with us. I doubt we'll read any others but if I happen to come across one and it looks good we're open to trying it.
