Sean Donovan (2007) - Plot & Excerpts

At 17 Sean Donovan has finally worked up the courage to leave Santa Rosa. Bitter and angry at his father's continued absence, Sean is determined to set out on his own, leaving his family and his God behind. For 2 years Sean finds odd jobs to earn money. He keeps moving in order to keep himself from thinking of his sisters Kaitlin and Marcail. When Sean meets up with Hartley he starts living a life of luxury that he decides he could get used to. But that doesn't last for long before Hartley springs his real job on Sean. Hartley is a bank robber and it is time to get back to "work".When Hartley and Sean are robbing the bank in Visalia Sean is caught and sentenced to hang. Finally repenting of his rebellion Sean is prepared to enter into his Heavenly Fathers arms. Feeling the noose around his neck he is unprepared when the judge reads an old law stating that if a woman of good standing in the community offers to marry the outlaw he can go free. Charlotte(Charlie to the community) steps forward and offers to marry Sean.Charlie is the owner of the local livery and is in need of a blacksmith for the business. With Sean's size he is the perfect candidate for the job. What Charlie can't figure out is how someone as gentle as Sean could have turned into a bank robber. As they become better acquainted Sean is determined to show his wife the love of Jesus Christ.I love Sean's story. It shows how the Holy Spirit always leads His children back to God. Sean's situation is so heart-breaking, yet when he is broken the Lord lifts him up and gives him a renewed purpose in life. How tender Sean is with Charlie is so sweet. Charlie is so spunky and yet also vulnerable, and very loveable. The confrontation between Sean and his father is a great lesson in forgiveness and being responsible for our own actions. Once again a great story!

Sean Donovan has been arrested for his first bank robbery. Tired of all the recent bank robberies, the town decides to make an example of him and sentences him to hang. But, Charlotte Cooper, the blacksmith and owner of the only livery in town, hears the sheriff read an old law stating that if a lady in the town, who is in good standing, agrees to marry the man, she can save him from the gallows. Charlotte plans to use Sean as free help around her livery, so she marries him. This is one of my favorite books by Lori Wick. It's a book about forgiveness, humility, loyalty and trust. Sean is a backslidden Christian, but turns back to the Lord and turns his life around after coming so close to death. He vows to win his new wife's trust, and through his lifestyle and faith in God, wins her over to the Lord as well as winning her heart. I've read this book several times, but love it every time. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to read a clean romance/love story.

What do You think about Sean Donovan (2007)?

I really enjoyed the beginning and middle of the book. However, the end was very disappointing and was quite boring. The book was almost completely void of conflict. In the beginning of the book, Sean and Charlie are getting to know each other and it's all happy, but I kept waiting for one of the bad guys to show up or maybe some drama arise between Sean and his father. I was greatly disappointed. Sean is unrealistically perfect. He almost has no emotions except love. He prays to God and everything turns out great. I believe God works in wonderful ways, but in this book He gives the people the perfect life. I will say this book was unpredictable. I kept expecting conflict or bad guys. Lori Wick had plenty of opportunity to write a great story, especially with the fact that Sean is a bank robber with a partner who is still on the loose, there is a man in town who wants him to hang, and he spent several years being angry at his father. However, as I said earlier, each of this things were resolved almost immediately with little to no problems. If you are looking for a Christian Romance story where God gives the characters the perfect life. This is the book for you. As for me, I found the book boring and discouraging as there are no perfect guys like Sean and God doesn't always give us exactly what we want.
