Second-Chance Dog: A Love Story (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
A combination of an animal story and a second chance love story. Jon's marriage is falling apart. He discovers that he is slowly falling in love with a neighbor, Maria. The problem? Maria's dog. She doesn't want to have anything to do with Jon, in fact she lunges at him and attacks him. the story is how he turned the dog's heart, and at the same time the woman's. Happy endings are just what the doctor ordered sometimes. I got this book as a gift from my sweet sister. And while I liked it, it feel into the slump most dog books get caught in. This book was about 110 pages about this mans divorce and new romance and about 30 pages about Frieda. I LOVE DOGS. Love them. Frieda is awesome. She protects her owner, Maria, and keeps the rest of the world out. She had a past as a car junkyard dog where she was horribly mistreated. The book is about her transition from being a loner into being one of the pack on the Katz farm. I swear have of the book is the author repeating himself. Maria loves art, but doesn't think its good enough. Times were hard I was paying my mortgage and car bill twice a month. :O . Times weren't that hard. If you had no money you would realize real quick if you were paying a mortgage twice a month. There were a few good quotes though:"They had connected on a very emotional level, each protecting the other, each feeling safe and grounded with the other. Those are the most powerful kinds of human-dog relationships. Also the most confusing""the two of them would just collapse into each other's lives. Whatever happened to either of them, these two had weathered storms together, a fusion of the heart, two species coming together in a dance of loyalty and love"
