Saving Simon: How A Rescue Donkey Taught Me The Meaning Of Compassion (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Absolutely a very interesting book. The author recounts his experience of nursing a very abused donkey, taking delight in its recovery and its ability to guard his farm and the other two female donkeys. Red,the dog has quite a personality and so does the blind appaloosa pony, both of them adopted as well by him due to various reasons. Compassion is defined in various ways such as the adoption of a neglected donkey, and in letting the old blind pony go. He also brings out his comapssionate feelings for the farmer who abused the donkey when the others wanted him to be punished. Enjoyed the book much. Great book. Being an animal lover, I could relate to how Jon Katz and his wife, Maria Wulf, adopted this donkey, Simon, brought him back from death's door, cared for and nurtured this feisty donkey and in the process of loving this donkey, found compassion. Katz is a story-teller, one of the best. As he writes, his words create a movie in my head of how all of this unfolds. Beautifully written, heart-breaking and so real. Highly recommend.
