This story had promise at the beginning. An man who broke the heart of the love of his life 15 years ago and is still deeply in love with her. The woman who is tough as nails and has built up walls around her so as not to be hurt again. They come face to face in a surprise meeting. It's all good, until a secret comes out....then he becomes a raging asshole and she becomes a sniveling weakling who won't stand up for herself. I think the point that lost me was when she flinches as she thinks he is going to hit her. Rather than that pulling him out of his behavior, he continues his angry rant. It was a complete flip of who the characters were and left me angry at their behaviors. Even the end, which does have a happy ever after (I suppose) left me questioning if their relationship would actually be happy, or be emotionally abusive. I receive a copy of this book for and honest review.I loved Jesse lanes paranormal series then I realized she had a military series also well I was hooked. I had to read them too. I'm so glad I did these did not disappoint. The female character was strong and tough she could take care of herself but when the Alpha male came around she could stand up to him or back down if she chose too. These are my favorite females not the weak I need a know to protect and take care of me. Bobby is the all American high school kid can have any girl he wants, who picks Belle. Belle is the girl from the ring side of the tracks and everyone in school and town remind her of this daily. However, bobby stands by her promises to be there for her forever no matter what. He goes into the army and while there decides they are too young and shouldn't make plans together so he writes the dreaded "dear john" letter to Belle. This crushes Belle and sends her on the run. By the time Bobby realizes his mistake is too late for 15 years he is unable to find her to undo what he did. One day bobby and his men are getting ready god a mission and in scrolls the ATF Agent that is assigned to work the case with them. Here is his second chance to make things right and he will do whatever he has to win Belle back. The question is can Belle trust him again and let him back in or will he continue to hurt her when more secrets come to light. I absolutely loved the guy. Declan Sullivan and his carefree sprit and his advice to Bobby; Riley Sullivan the quite one now there is a story there cannot wait to find out what that is; Commander Jaxon there is a true solder everything in life can be handled by treating it like a mission got to love that. I cannot wait for the read their stories. I enjoyed the fact that Belle best friend, Teagan, got to have her say when Bobby came back. Teagan is also one tough female that I would love to hear her story. Then there is Seth who for being a kid showed more maturity than Bobby did at times. This was a great read it had suspense, emotion, and action. I had a hard time putting it down once I picked it up. Jesse Lane has sucked me into another one of her series with her brilliant writing style, wonderful storyline and great characters. I cannot wait to start the next one. Some of my favorites: “No, Belle, you’re wrong. No one will ever make me feel the way I do when I’m with you. I know this with the certainty that the sun will set today and rise again tomorrow. The kind of certainty when the moon rises and the stars blink in the sky that they’ll all still look way too dim to me. They’ll always look too dim because you are the brightest star in my life and without you everything else seems cloudy. I only seem to see things clearly when you’re around and I know all of that because you are my soul.”“You can break my heart. You can scoop it right out from inside of my sheet with a dull, rusty spoon and, even then, I wouldn’t be able to stop wanting you.” “God, you’re such a dumbass, Bobby. I can literally see the wheels turning in that peon-sized brain of yours as you talk yourself out of your own happiness. Stop it already! Get over it, dumbass! You hurt her. She hurt you. Then, you went and hurt her again. Now go down there, offer your cojones up as a sacrifice, then kiss and make up with the woman. Don’t look back, Bobby; look forward. The two of you obviously love each other. Don’t be stupid enough to throw it way, man.”
