Okay so the basic gist of this novel is about a marriage formed because of a bet and we all know those never go down too well when the main character finds that out. Sound like every other historical romance? That's because it is. Just from reading the summary you can already tell how the events are going to progress. Jack ends up falling in love with Grace, realizes it too late to really do anything except mope around. Plot twist and a happily ever after. While there was no surprise or suspense (and actually seemed more like a formula I've begun recognizing in historical novels), it's honestly not as bad as I'm making it out to be. So the story might have dragged longer than it really should, but it wasn't by any means a terrible book. An irk factor of mine was the stupid unnecessary prolonging in expressing the main couples' feelings. They both love each other. Just get on with it already. But the. Again that's always a factor in just about every historical romance where they express their feelings at the end. We all like a bit of predictability here and there so if that's what you're looking for then this book is just right for you. I really enjoyed the second book in the Byron Family Series. It was a touching story of 2 people brought together by unusual circumstances. When Grace finds out about the deception and leaves Jack even though she is truly in love with him is heartbreaking. But Jack has also fallen in love and the lengths he goes to to win her back are wonderful. I have moved onto the next story and it appears it is going to be just as good. I love Tracy Anne Warren's books and can't wait to finish the Byron Family Series and move onto her new one.
What can I say? It was a really good story.
