Sehnsucht Der Dämmerung: Guardians Of Eternity 11 - Roman (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Hunt the Darkness, Alexandra Ivy.Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviewsSo, this is book eleven in the Guardians series...and as I’d read book one ages ago, and somehow never got to the rest I wondered how I’d get on with it. No problem is the answer :-) Though there are references to other events and people Alexandra makes it easy to keep up, and it seems each book is a complete novel, just how I love it. One day I’ll get to the rest! For this one though I really enjoyed the story. Its got the right blend of magic and mayhem, sex and sensuality for me. Roke starts off resenting Sally, she's nothing like he'd envisaged for a mate. He wanted sweet and compliant, and she's fiery and outspoken. She'd caught him in her spell accidentally, and as she was trying to escape capture at the time I could understand why she'd tried everything in her resources to get away, especially given the distrust of witches so many vampires have...She needs help from her father though to break the spell, and she doesn't know who he is. Still, though she's got feeling for Roke, her pride and sense of fairness makes her search every avenue for her father. Roke is attracted to her, and sexually they are on fire...he keeps telling himself its just the spell, but as Sally keeps getting into danger, and the journey continues, he learns more about her and her troubled childhood, his feelings are changing and he doesn't want the bond broken. Sally is stubborn though, she has strong feelings for him but thinks – knows really – his clan won't accept her, and continues her search despite the increasing dangers. She is convinced its just the spell making him think he loves her, and that she's not right for him, not clever enouygh, beautiful enough and certainly not compliant enough! Roke can't persuade her to stop the search, so stays with her and they get into more and more dangers, and grow closer and closer. Then she finds him...the father who can break the spell, and what she learns about her birth is heartbreaking...Its a book full of action, vampires, witches, gargoyles, Fae and other supernaturals...I love this sort of fantasy where there's romance and danger, journeys and endings. Its a fun read, and kept me entertained til the very end. Stars: Four and a half, I really enjoyed it and maybe if I'd read all the series I’d have gone five. As it was I felt its a little light, and maybe what I missed was that connection of the story that runs through series like these. My fault, not the book. ARC provided via Netgalley Posted on Les Romantiques - Le forum du siteReviewed by FabiolaReview Copy from the PublisherHunt the Darkness is the 15th (I also included the novellas) volume in the Guardians of Eternity series, a series I’m super fan of since I’ve discovered it some years ago. That’s by the way one of the few series I follow assiduously.Hunt the Darkness takes the story over three weeks after the end of Darkness Avenged. Roke, our hero, is chasing after Sally, the witch who mated them with a spell. Their goal is to find again the young girl’s father to break the spell. At least that’s what Roke convinces himself of, while Sally really wishes to neutralize the spell even if she’s strongly attracted by him.As usual with Alexandra Ivy, the book gets off to a great start and there’s 100% action with each time the appearance of previous characters we love, new interesting characters for whom we know they’ll have their story (here Cyn, an Irish, amongst other things, but I’m not going to reveal everything either). The book also is full of humor but of emotion too.Sally is a character I really liked. We know she was one of the disciples of the dark master, the big baddy defeated in the 12th volume titled Fear the Darkness. The readers learned to know and appreciate her in Darkness Avenged and it’s with Hunt the Darkness that she reveals herself the most. The author succeeded in getting tears out of me, not only with Sally’s past, but with what happens to her when she meets Roke’s clan and finally when she’s brought face to face with her father for the first time.Roke is also a character we appreciate. We know he’s attracted to Sally, but he’s someone who refuses that the destiny be the one to choose his soul mate, because of what his clan went through in the past. So he does everything to push Sally back. But when he finally accepts his feelings, Sally is the one to be wary and Roke must do everything to gain her forgiveness and her love. What I really like in Alexandra Ivy, is that her idea of soul mate doesn’t include necessarily absolute love between the two concerned people as soon as the link is created. Thus two soul mates aren’t forced to be in love with each other. They can, like everybody, learn to know and appreciate each other. Likewise, someone can be soul mate with another person but the same isn’t necessarily. The sex scenes aren’t very numerous nor very long. They’re there to show the two heroes can’t avoid being attracted to each other and they’re well brought. However, as they have a mission to accomplish, the book focuses on action and on the evolution of our main characters’ feelings.Obviously Levet is as present in this volume as in the previous ones, getting our vampire friends enraged once more. But we see the appearance more and more regular of Yannah, who seems to lead our Levet by the nose. I really hope Alexandra Ivy will have them united. To conclude, Hunt the Darkness is a wondrous volume in the series not to be missed. All the fans will love Sally and Roke’s story. And the French speaking readers won’t have too long to wait for the French release by Milady.
