Seven Exes Are Eight Too Many (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
This book was very enjoyable! And I found myself burst out laughing every once in a while, sometimes without realizing it. One thing I liked about this book was that it was clean. There was no sex, though it was mentioned that she did have sex with all of the exes that were on the island with her. But the worst it got in the touchy-feely department was kissing, all of which were sweet. I was grinning from ear to ear at the end.Definitely worth the read. I will probably read it again. Considering the title, I thought I was downloading a comedy. Not so, although the story has it's amusing moments. Certainly the tongue-in-cheek view of reality TV was funny enough. I particularly enjoyed that, as I dislike reality TV shows - I consider them only slightly more "real" than wrestling shows. If that was all TV had to offer, I'd sell the television. The author's concept of hapless contestants hijacked by the network into a show they knew nothing about is certainly original. The main character, MC, and her prime "ex", Kent, are both dumped on neighboring islands, each of them accompanied by seven of their other exes. They not only have to live with the exes, but form a team with them to compete against each other for prizes. They are all stuck with each other for 3 weeks.MC and Kent have both good points and flaws, as real people usually do. In fact, all the characters are well portrayed as real people with distinct personalities. The author could easily have relegated the exes to bit players with no real substance. Instead, each of them added to the story in their own fashion. I like that the camera and production people had their human moments as well, making them part of the story in a small way.The whole purpose of the show, of course, is to toss MC and Kent together and see what happens - that's supposed to be the "dating" part of the show. Neither one of them can see how much they mean to each other, although everyone else catches on fast. It was funny to watch the show's host as his frustration with the situation grew. I can't say the ending was a surprise, but it was certainly well done.I don't give the 5 stars often, but here I found no reason not to do so. This is a well written, interesting book that doesn't take itself too seriously. It was simply fun to read. I will certainly want to read the author's work again.

A fun read. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a Lifetime movie.
