This was a great read for me. It can be easy to be critical sometimes of our government and complain about the things I don't like, but this was a good reminder for me of the unique history of our country. It may not be easy now, but it was anything but easy then too! People disagreeing is nothing new. I think it is hard to recount history without adding your own bias, but I really appreciated the perspective of one who looks for the miracles- acknowledging how many times things could have taken a different turn for our country. Acknowledging the hand of a loving God. My favorite part was the chapter on Lincoln (I am a big fan). He was so committed to his values- even though he was often all alone. A fun way to read a history lesson! I enjoyed the book. The introduction almost turned me off, I found it almost childish. I felt like he was almost poo-pooing people's arguments because he didn't agree with them. I didn't agree with them, either, but I didn't like the condescending tone he took. I did find the actual miracles part very interesting. I almost feel like I got cheated in school; how did I not know about some of these things? I found the part historical fiction, part non-fiction format very distracting. I know he was trying to make it more interesting to more people, but I almost felt like I couldn't tell what really happened and what was the fiction. I like non-fiction, I wish he would have kept it all non-fiction. Still, the miracles are cool. And I do strongly agree with him that the Lord has had a very apparent hand in shaping and preserving this nation. I believe that God has a work for us to do.
