While I can understand why people would upset with this story, I for one actually enjoyed it. Miranda has changed from the frightened women in Queen of Shadows to one who was made to be "Queen" but still cling to her humanity, so we see a different side to Miranda. We also get to witness a time of turmoil in David and Miranda's marriage and how through this time of turmoil, they come back stronger than ever. While we see a whole different side to Miranda, there is also character development. Not only is she getting stronger physically and psychically, but she is becoming wiser. In this book she finally comes to terms with what she is and the consequences that come with what she is and the responsibilities she bears as Queen. It's a little sad at the end, but for one I understand why the author went this route. It is a very interesting ride. Again I like these characters. The ones you want to hate you seem to find some redeeming tidbit. The writer takes her time with creating the story. There are times I feel she takes too long to get to the point. Never figure a name to be just mentioned and not come back to bite you in the butt later. I have the next installment of this series. I'll read it because I have gone this far I am curious to see what happens. Already Dremen says that Miranda will never have peace. What's that all about? Dang, there has got to be something she and David can look forward too. Why be immortal if the time you live SUCKS!!
