It would be almost impossible not to love Lily, the main character in this appealing picture book. She is so innocent and trusting and so thrilled to find the pet she has longed for in her garden one morning. Because it has similar characteristics to a dog, Lily mistakes a bear that has escaped from the city zoo for a puppy. After a day of adventures, she reluctantly makes a poster to find his owner. When he is returned to the zoo, Lily is sad until she finds another surprise in the garden the next morning. Young readers will love this story about the bond between a small girl and a bear, and the illustrations that show the facial expressions on the characters are especially appealing. Lily really wants a doggy so she is super excited when she finds one in her backyard one day. Mom won't let her keep it though so she makes a poster describing doggy. He can't do a lot of the regular doggy things like fetch but he is a lot of fun. The posters work and doggy's owners come to get him...he belongs to the ZOO! Of course he does...he is a bear! Lily is sad to loose doggy until she finds kitty in the backyard.I thought this was a wonderful book. It was cute and enjoyable. Lily and doggy are a great pair. I loved the idea of this bear just following the little girl around and her trying to get him to be her doggy. Wonderful storytelling.
A fun story where a little girl mis-identifies her new 'pet'.
