Sinner Takes All: A Memoir Of Love And Porn (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
Having recently read 'Girlvert' this book felt less authentic and gritty. Whilst it doesn't hold back on the personal turmoil in Tera's life it also felt like it glossed over some of the more unsavoury elements of the porn industry. The passages describing her relationship with the Evan Seinfeld are nauseating and border on the comical in their cheesiness. The epilogue discusses their subsequent divorce and gives the impression that he used her for his own financial gain and to find a way into the industryThis book shows someone who struggles in personal relationships, has been financially exploited to some degree and has struggled with alcohol problems. This doesn't sit very easily alongside the image it wants to project of Tera being a role model for sexual freedom and empowerment. I love memoirs and I think Tera Patrick is absolutely beautiful, I don't watch porn(just not for me) but if I had to pick my "fav" porn star based on looks, Tera would be it. As soon as I saw it at the library I got it, because it's right up my alley. However it really wasn't very well written at all. I finished it quickly, it wasn't exactly boring, but just written fairly poorly, to the point where I'm very surprised there was even a ghost writer at all!!! There were some interesting parts, like the ending where she actually seems to be speaking honestly and from the heart, and her modeling career in Japan was interesting, but she really didn't get very deep or write from the heart. Just a lot of stuff about how much she "loves to fuck" where it almost kind of turned me off. I don't know if I should make comparisons because they are two different people, but Jenna Jameson's book (How To Make Love Like A Porn Star) is about 1,0000 times better. She had a much better ghost writer(I believe the same one who helped Marilyn Manson with his (amazing) memoir, and it had a lot more pictures, but above all she really got very deep and was thoroughly honest and unlike Tera, Jenna's book was extremely raw and real. Sinner Takes All was a bit fluffy.
