When I bought this book, I'd never heard of the show Sister Wives. I'm not much of a television person, and I bought the book simply because it sounded interesting to me. The book is divided into four parts: matrimony (how each wife met Kody), sorority (how the wives interact with each other), family (children and how the blended families interact), and celebrity (how each wife dealt with the reality show Sister Wives). The book was interesting, I'll give them that. I've never given much thought to modern-day polygamous marriages (outside of the FLDS). And it was intriguing to read about how five adults can possibly make their relationships work. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a lot of bickering and jealousy amongst the wives, even as they touted how awesome their marriages were. Meri seems like she would be a pill and a half to live with; she comes across as very aggressive and the "alpha" of the group. Meanwhile, Janelle comes across as a doormat. Altogether, I feel sorry for some of the members of the group (particularly Janelle, who seems to get the raw end of the deal more than once). I think this book would probably appeal more to those who are familiar with the show Sister Wives, but it worked okay as a stand alone book. There's nothing particularly earth-shattering here, but it was interesting to read how other people live in alternative family relationships. If you've seen the show "Sister Wives" then you already know half of the story. The other part is in the book which gives insight to all four wives and Kody. They are one wacked up family.I'm not getting the whole celestial marriage thing. The whole book was just complaint after complain about one another's faults. They praised themselves for putting up with the other sister wives but then put them down. Really? In a book they most likely will read or their kids will read. How bizarre. What I've learned from "Becoming Sister Wives" is that the only good thing of living the principle is free childcare! Otherwise its just better to have one significant other and not others.
What do You think about Sister Wives (2000)?
The polygamy lifestyle is interesting to me. I don't know why!
