Skeleton Creek. Patrick Carman (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
September 19 2014 There are many ways in which the book is scary. The book is scary for 2 reasons. One way is because Ryan, the main protagonist lives in a place called Skeleton Creek. This place would be scary because he never slept alone until Monday, September 13. Another way this novel is scary is because Ryan is also the narrator and gives us suspense through all the 10 first pages. "This is it I'm dead"(Carman 1). This quote is the first sentence in the book but it still gives the readers goose bumps. For these two reasons the novel is scary. There are many ways in which this book is interesting to the readers. The book is interesting in 2 ways. One way is because he likes sports. The readers know this because Ryan said he wants to join the varsity team. Another way is because Ryan gives us foreshadowing. "I have a strong feeling this will be the last journal I ever write"(Carman 3). For these two reasons the novel is interesting. There are many ways in which Ryan has a lot of imagination. He has imagination in 2 ways. First is because he hears noises at night. When he hears a noise Ryan has to stay awake and keep thinking what the sound was. Another reason is because Ryan thinks he sees something without really seeing it. ... helps me see Skeleton Creek with fresh eyes Carman 7). For these two reasons Ryan is creative.September 26, 2014 There are many ways in which the book has amazing characters. This book has 2 amazing characters, Ryan and Sarah. One reason these characters are amazing is because they are best friends who want to find the mystery of their town, Skeleton Creek. They both have one objective which gives them the friends bond. Another reason the characters are amazing is because they are friends who blame each other. Ryan blames Sarah for what happened to him but miss' her. For these two reasons I find the characters interestingly amazing. Reading this book is interesting because of the great author. The author has two very good writing skills. One of his writing skills is foreshadowing. The author hooks the readers into the book. Another skill the author has is suspense. The author has the most suspenseful book ever read. An example of suspense would be "...where all this is going. I just have to get it down on paper. One last time" (Carman 17). For these two reason the author has two writing skills. The book gets a lot scarier throughout the next couple pages. Their are two reasons the book gets scarier. One reason is the setting. The characters learn about their town "Skeleton Creek" or as it was called before Linkford. Another reason the book gets scarier is because we still don't know what happened to Ryan. Ryan blames Sarah but the author still hasn't told us why. For these 2 reasons the book gets scarier and scarier. October 10 2014 This novel is great and recommended. It is recommended for two reasons. One reason is because of it's foreshadowing. The author gives this a great writing because of the art of foreshadowing. Another reason is suspense. Suspense is helpful because it makes the reader want to read more. For these two reasons the book is recommended to the people who want to read it. As the novel continues the novel becomes much better. There are two ways the novel becomes better. One way the novel becomes better is because Sarah and Ryan are doing something they are not supposed to do. This gives us a scary impression. Another way the novel becomes better is because we start to know more about Sarah and what happened to her. Throughout the book the readers would still think who is Sarah. For these two reasons the novel becomes much better. Their are themes that come up as reading this novel. Their are two themes that come up. One of the themes is Sarah's videos. This theme shows how much Sarah loves videotaping stuff and putting theme in her website. Another theme is Ryan's diary. Ryan writes everything in his diary that he has. For these two reasons I think their are 2 themes. The book Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carman was by far the best mysterious book I've read. The book was full of mystery, suspense, and danger. Skeleton Creek made me think of the unknown mysteries in my city and if there were any suspicious things going on as well. The characters of David and Sarah could be described as rebels, but for detective reasons. I love how they were really not supposed to be talking at all, but could not let the mystery of their town, Skeleton Creek, be left unsolved. This is the first book that I have read that has actually scared me a little. I knew that none of the book was true and that it would be really rare if anything like it ever occurred, but the videos made it so vivid. The website where you see the videos at was creepy on its own without even watching the video yet. The videos in between chapters was my favorite part because since the book was David's journal, seeing both him and Sarah in the videos showed their strong friendship, and another perception on the mystery of Old Joe Bush involved at the accident of Skeleton Creek. Another one of my favorite parts that made the book interesting right off the bat was when the book started and there had already been a previous accident between David and Sarah. This beginning left me asking myself questions after questions and this is what gave me will and motivation that it had me reading every little bit and piece intensely. I recommend this book to anyone alive! I also recommend this book to people who love mystery and danger. I cannot wait to continue reading the Skeleton Creek series! -P.S. The ending video is the best part!
