Síkvándor (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

A story about the multiverse is bound to be exciting and cool, and this book delivers. The parallel universe Everett ends up in is exciting, and the possibility of the other universes is enticing (thank goodness for sequels!). The book does drag a bit at first before Everett starts traveling, and the physics are beyond my powers of comprehension, but this is fun. I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy. The child of a kidnapped physicist unlocks in his dad's work the key to exploring a multitude of alternate realities. It's OK. It looks like maybe the sequels avoid the aspect of this that I enjoyed the least: I really dislike it when a YA book spends 1/3 to 1/2 of the story just laying the groundwork for some science-fictional or fantasy premise. I mean, there's family stuff and encounters with ordinary cops and a lot of messing around before the alternate reality business really comes on stage. And then (for this episode at least) it becomes a fairly ordinary steampunk novel. So the payoff really wasn't worth it in my mind. I do think the later books might have more to offer though.
