Sky Color (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I'd read this book myself earlier (saw it in the bookshop and had to borrow it from the library for our homeschooling), so asked James and Zenobia before we read together what colour the sky is. "Blue." "Blue, with white clouds." And indeed, they were both right as we looked out the window. But this is a book about the artistic eye, and encourages perception. The class is painting a mural and Marisol opted to paint the sky, but all the blue got used up by children painting the sea! What to do? But on her way home from school that day she notices how many very different colours you can see in the sky. A lovely little book. This story has a wonderful main character. She is positive and supportive of her peers. She is a great artist, and she uses it to do good. She makes posters for causes she believes in, and she encourages her peers to be artists too. She is given the biggest challenge of her art "career" when she volunteers to pain the sky only to find she can't use blue. I love that she does not give up, she gets creative. Wonderful story! Highly recommend!

What do You think about Sky Color (2012)?

I don't particularly love Peter H. Reynolds, but this is definitely my favorite book by him so far.

This is a great read and will make kids look at the sky and drawing it a little differently.
