Not your typical romance - a story about a married couple ripped apart by the wife’s postpartum depression after three miscarriages. One of those books I felt that I should like more, because it’s an important topic not addressed in many romances. After complaining about several books where you didn’t see the romance and relationship development, it’s almost too much here. We spend so much time inside the heroine’s head with very little action aside from badonga badonga that I just wanted it to stop. Kai and Kurt have been separated for more than a year because of three miscarriages. She leaves him because she feels he doesn't understand and that she doesn't deserve him.Kurt, on the other hand, felt like whatever he did to console her, was just making things worse. So he let her move out, but not divorcing her. He waits until she decides to return to him againLaura Florand writes a simple story about being happy, losing that happiness and finding it again. I think this is one of my favourite Florand books, showing that happy ever after doesn't exactly follow right after the i do. Promising to love is different from actually loving, knowing when to let go and when to reel that person back in. Of all her novels, this one is nearer reality, tackling a broken marriage and the fact that there are just some pain that can't be shared, even between couples.Sometimes, all you can do is understand.Of course, it wouldn't be Florand if there weren't anything ANYTHING about food. And this one delivers, from the hot sugar powder action to the loving waffles topped with strawberry heart. The love scenes are uncomplicated, no one tied up, no one being spanked, which reflects the kind of love Kurt has for Kai. Simple and true. Sometimes, this kind of love is needed the most, especially in the midst of confusion and sorrow.

Such a heartbreaking subject and so well written. I cant wait to read the next book of the series
