Stumbled across this book by an author I didn't know, and really enjoyed it. The settings (France & south Pacific island[s]), the restaurant world, the main characters, and the gradual reveal of their marriage as the story unfolds and the H/h each grapple with the thought that it might be over, and their spouse's attempts to deal with it too. So well done. The writing wasn't as tight as I would've preferred, but all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I will definitely read more by this author. A nice story, and I loved the internal dialogues. Ms. Florand writes so beautifully, and I'm always impressed with her style and the imagery. But I wish these characters hadn't spent 11 years having these thoughts and holding so much inside themselves and pushing themselves to the brink of collapse—both personally and as a couple. What is so hard about having a conversation with your spouse, after all?

4.5 stars. A really lovely story of a married couple finding their way back to each other.
