Snowmen All Year Board Book (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This is a fun rhyming story that sparks the imagination of children. What if snowmen could hang out all year? The illustrations are great, although it was quite frustrating trying to find all the hidden pictures. We always found the two ducks and usually found the hidden snowman, but often couldn't find the T-Rex, cat, and rabbit (we usually could find one or two of them, but hardly ever all three.) There are lots of other hidden items in several of the pictures, too, and it was more fun to play "I Spy" as we perused the pages. Third in a series of snowmen adventures, Snowmen All Year imagines the shared activities a boy and his snowman would enjoy were this the “magic snow (t)hat will not disappear, (a)nd this snowman be the one (t)o stay with me all year!” The cheery, colorful oil and acrylic illustrations make concrete the non-wintry activities of the boy and snowman, from flying kites to trick or treating. Each lively two-page painting is filled with action and contains two ducks, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a rabbit, a cat and at least one hidden snowman for children to search for. The book is designed to appeal to young children and hold their attention through multiple readings. The rhyming text may not win awards for lyric subtlety, but successfully engages children in imagining a yearlong play date with a snowman best friend. A good review on Amazon indicates this snowman book's illustrations are less pleasing to adults than the first two in the series. Likewise it's poetry is less evocative. However that review and several others indicate that this is a favorite of little kids.
What do You think about Snowmen All Year Board Book (2012)?
A very cute poetic story, great for a follow up art/writing project in the classroom.

This one in the series is okay, but I enjoy Snowmen at Night more.
