Kind of up in the air with this one. There's more that I didn't like than I did. I didn't like Maggie, her obsession with being 'fair', her need to make everything (including love) a negotiation - to the very end. She accuses him of manipulating throughout but she is the one who's constantly negotiating, manipulating, and using him. The book had some witty banter but not nearly as much as in the first book and the h/H didn't have the heat of the ones in 'Some like it charming' (still totally hate that ludicrous name). Cole had his charm and I saw everything that he did as a way of demonstrating his love for her. But I just didn't see chemistry and the whole business aspect just bored me to tears. Not a total waste of a read but not great either. 2.5 stars. So, where to start? Lately I've been finding a lot of same plotlines with books, that when I flicked over the first few pages, I didn't know if this would be able to hold my interest.Surpringly there is something about this book, that I can't quite put my finger on. It's not perfect, but I honestly could not stop reading it. In fact I even stood in the bathroom reading it and lost track of time. I think it's possibly because the subject matter was interesting in regards to wheeling and dealing when it came to money, despite it not going very indepth. This book has a lot of promise. I liked that both the characters were hard, had a history, and were comfortable together. There was really something in that, which resonated with me. (Though characters like Maggie usually turn me off, I found I could deal with her...just.)Virginia's character was something special. The way she saw things, her relationship with her husband and his alcoholism. She was the one character that makes you question what you'd do in the same situation. She certainly brought depth to the story.I really wanted to see more, smell and taste more in the book. The stories are all set up, but they just do not delve deep enough, if they did, I think readers would connect more. (Can't say I was complaining about Cole losing it outside and doing Maggie up against the trunk, but that because that's right down my alley, right ladies? ;) )I'm actually going to read this again, because I'm still thinking about it. Although I wasn't 100% on board with ending about Cole surrendering MOC, and the feeling that Maggie still manipulated him, it struck a chord with me, I just wish that it had that little bit more.
What do You think about Some Like It Ruthless (2000)?
Cole and Maggie- the banter couple. A cute read,no angst but was a nice story to read.
