Smooth, quick, enjoyable read. Nice combo of mystery and romance. The mystery turned to suspense pretty early on (we knew who the killer was and watched while he tried to take down the witness) but that helped to put the mystery in the backseat of the romance, which worked well. The romance itself was pretty good, but I have to say that for me at least, it missed its moment. There were too many false starts with this couple almost getting together and stopping for iffy reasons so that by the time they did get together, I was feeling lukewarm about it. But these things are very much a matter of opinion ... I just wanted to explain why I went 3 stars. Smooth, quick, enjoyable read. Nice combo of mystery and romance. This was fun! It's definitely a soft 4 stars, but I really did enjoy it. It was a really quick read, but in a good way. I could so easily see the whole thing play out like a movie. There wasn't necessarily a whole lot of substance, but that didn't make it any less fun. I definitely had the giddy YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO FALL IN LOVE thing from the very beginning. Who doesn't love the enemies to lovers trope? It was definitely enough to keep me interested in reading the rest of the series!

Good story, I think it might have been better had it been longer, as I felt some of the issues were resolved a little too early. Also, the reference to 'It Happened One Night' was a little inaccurate. Yes Clark gable begun undressing in front of her but only as a warning for her to move to her side of the "wall". He only got as far as unbuttoning his shirt before she moved. Not as "steamy" as the author would have you believe. Anyway, minor detail.
