Somewhere In Heaven: The Remarkable Love Story Of Dana And Christopher Reeve (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

I knew this story wouldn't be easy to read, but it was rewarding. This couple were the epitome of bravery and class. It is hard to believe the extrordinary unfairness of what happened to them in life, especially Dana. To lose her husband, mother, and then become terminally ill herself is just too much to comprehend. She gave Job a run for his money. She appears to have handled it all with amazing grace. Her concern for her young son Will was so easy to relate to as a parent. Fortunately, they seem to have endowed him with very good coping skills. They certainly gave him a good example to follow. A very touching story that certainly reaffirmed the importance of living each day to its fullest. None of us know how much time we will have on this earth. Other than a few of his films, that he'd had a riding accident, and that he championed for spinal cord research (especially with stem cells and was thus "against" George W. Bush and "for" the guys I candidates I didn't like), I knew very little of Christopher Reeve's life. From what I saw from a distance (but did not actively pursue to know more about), I admired his courage and stamina. I vaguely knew when Christopher Reeve died, since it was during my college years. As I was very caught up in more college (aka graduate school), somehow I completely missed that his wife Dana passed away so soon after him. This book told a bit more of their backgrounds before they met each other, and then what their life was like together--before and after the accident. I saw even more how amazing the two were individually and together in their love, courage, endurance, positive outlooks and attitudes, and more. A well-written work. Nice to hear the various tributes of family and friends. (No clue he and Robin Williams were such good friends!!) A bit too much of their personal relationship that I don't think anyone outside of their marriage needed to know, but some things mentioned I could see important in showing the overall picture of everything they struggled with.I'm curious to go watch more of his appearances and lectures that he gave. I'd like to hear her sing. I want to know how their children have fared. So I may do a bit of searching for a few days to fill in a few gaps that a book cannot convey, and then I will go on with life with more knowledge and admiration for these two real-life heroes--and think on the disabled heroes I have known in my life who plowed on as they did, and remember how blessed I and so many of us are.
