Song Chaser (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Song Chaser is a story of healing and second chances. This story focuses on Tanner West, Paisley's best friend. After professing his love and attempting to win Paisley and being unsuccessful, Tanner is a man on a path of emotional destruction, trying to keep his head down and put his broken heart together. He meets Kellee Brooks, the perfect woman for him if his heart wasn't attached to someone else. As their paths cross and connections are made, we see two broken people who must learn to trust and love again. But with broken people comes heartache and broken promises, some of which could cause the end of new found hope.Song Chaser is most definitely my favorite in this series. In the first book, I really hated Tanner for trying to sabotage Paisley and Corbin. His attitude and interference made me loathe him and his sneaky ways. So when I began reading this book, I was a little nervous about it. Instead I read a story that broke my heart and put the pieces back together again. Tanner and Kellee are perfect for each other, broken pieces and all. These two main characters are well written and emotional. Tanner was in love with his best friend for years and when he finally told her, she chose another man. His heart has been broken in such a deep way and his life changed from his confession. Tanner is self destructive and the only thing keeping him going is his job at the hospital and his alcohol. Kellee is a strong young woman who has left the world she knew behind to follow her dreams. She is strong, beautiful, kind, and dealing with a lot of emotional baggage. These two have the potential to be something great or to blow up in something messy and tragically. This book was such a good follow up to Tag Chaser. It shows a broken man who lost the woman he loved. In so many books we see him fall quickly in love with someone else who was perfect for him and his heart is whole again half way through the story. That is not the case here. His attachment to Paisley is the thing that will ruin him. He begins to fall for Kellee but continues to choose his friendship with Paisley over Kellee, a move that causes so much friction and pain. This story was a sad story of learning to let go and realize what is right in front of you was what you wanted, needed, and loved all along. It does not negate the feelings from before but shows how healing can happen and second chances will bloom.I loved the theme of family in this story. Both characters have some strong family members who love and encourage them. Instead of the all knowing best friend, we have Mee Ma and Tanner's parents. The relationships are sweet and supportive, adding more to this story.Tanner and Kellee's story is by far my favorite in the series! It seems to be all over the place emotionally, which really works with what is happening. It is sad, happy, and heart breaking. It felt real and perfect. What a great book! What a great writer! She is now on my list of must reads. Song Chaser, book two of The Chaser series, is Tanner’s story and my favorite book in the series. From the jump the story grabs the readers’ heart and won’t let go. Tanner carries a torch for Paisley, his best friend. He always thought they would get together but Paisley loves Corbin. Poor Tanner pines away for Paisley and the friendship that is so important to him. He doesn’t know how to move on until Kellee walks into his life. There are so many things that I like about this book. First and foremost is Tanner. I love him in Tag Chaser but, in this book, he jumps right off the pages and into my heart big time. He is everything a girl, and woman, dreams about. He is smart, hot, compassionate, hot, a good son who worships his father and did I mention hot. I really, really like this guy. Tanner’s parents are beautiful characters that I love. It is so refreshing to have a hero's parents so loving and proud of their son. I thoroughly enjoy the time Tanner spends with his family. It is a very loving family scene. Kellee, like Paisley, is a strong heroine. She compliments Tanner’s character perfectly. I love when the female characters are strong determined women. Kellee has issues (don't we all) but she isn't afraid to stand up for herself. One of the best support characters in the book is Kellee’s grandmother. She made me laugh and I love the way she helps Kellee make good decisions. The scenes with Kellee and her grandmother are a joy to read. It is an added bonus that we get into both Kellee and Tanner’s head with the chapters alternating between both points of view. It adds so much to the story knowing what each character is feeling and thinking. Their love story is a journey that the reader shares with these two, It isn’t always easy but it is a learning adventure. There are times that are gut wrenching and times that are absolutely loving and everything in between. I really like the music theme that runs through the book. Music holds a lot of memories for Tanner but those memories are mostly associated with events that he shared with Paisley. Now he is trying to write a new tune that will be Kellee. Finally let me say that I like that that the characters are everyday people. They are people you might run into at work or around the neighborhood. They aren't the unattainable billionaire but a love that everyone of us can find. Well done Kandi Steiner!
