This is a scattered, hot mess. I don't know what Kol was attempting but it never connected any direction that it went, and it went a lot of directions. I buy and download a lot of books and get to them at sometime in the future. This was one of those books that I forgot about and didn't know who wrote it when I originally reviewed it on Amazon. If I didn't like Kol so much and know what he is capable of, I wouldn't be editing this review. I do know what he's capable of and this could be a good series if he makes some changes to the style. I think that in writing in joint POVs the voices of these two MCs is causing the reader to think it's really bad writing instead of the voices if two messed up men. It,s a bit like reading the thoughts of two adolecents instead of two grown men. Don't be mad at me, Kol! If I'm misunderstanding some intent, let me know, JMHO Kol is not afraid to go “there” is he??? From kidnapping and torturing rentboys to abuse and incest, he does not pull any punches. And that’s why I love his writing! It’s raw and gritty and packed with emotion.Poor Kayden. He had such a horrible childhood. Once his mother died, his older brother Hunter raised him and protected him from their abusive father. He became Kayden’s savior, his angel. So I can understand how those feelings evolved into the love and lust he’s feeling now. Kayden was so tortured it was heartbreaking. He knew his feelings were wrong, but he couldn’t stop them. The ending was a bit surprising to me, but it has me anxiously waiting for book #2. P.S. Love the cover! I like having nice visuals for the boys I’m reading about :)
What do You think about Soulmate (2000)?
I love Kol Anderson... but this is one that unfortunately didn't work for me personally.
