Evie is somewhat of a loner at school. Aside from her lunch companions she's labeled 'the whisperers,' she pretty much keeps to herself. She enjoys her weekly paper route, especially since it means she usually gets to see Jonah, who is usually doing his job of cleaning the expired animals in the area at the end of her routine. Things change for her when Jonah discovers a classmate of hers murdered in woods. Even though she does not know the girl well, she finds herself caught up with the dead girl's best friend and also looking for her killer. There was much plot build-up only for a big letdown. It almost seemed as if the author was trying to go with something we wouldn't predict in the end, because so much was already pointing to, what I thought, was going to be an obvious conclusion. I will say that I was very impressed with the authors take on the main character. She was odd but relatable. I enjoyed reading her thoughts. In the end, however, I think trying to stray away from the predictable led to a hasty and unsatisfying ending. Oh well. I'm on to the next read. :) This book had promise but it just didn't deliver. At first I felt bad for the main character Evie, she is weird, has no friends, and says the craziest things. I thought she was a little misfit. But as I read on all she does is lie and she is creepy. I didn't care for her and I definitely didn't like Hadley who she hung out with for while. When I finished there was no that makes sense that was good. It was more like what did I just read and what was the point of all that.
What do You think about Space Between Trees (2000)?
This book was interesting. It was strange how they told the story. I do not recommend this book.
