Illustrations remind me very much of Ungerer's The Three Robbers. The three in this book set out to catch a beautifully colored bird, bright against the blues & blacks of the rest of the illustrations. A fourth little one tries to call to the bird and is Shushed by the others. He eventually wins over the bird, and many friends, with bread.Haughton is from Dublin, Ireland, now living in London.Quote opposite title page: Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding. - Albert Einsteinrecommended to me by Ashley! Four little hunters are trying to capture a beautiful bird. Well, three hunters are trying to capture it. The fourth just wants to be it's friend. The three hunters try various tactics all with horribly humorous results. The fourth guy tries a different tactic altogether and makes several friends.I really liked the illustration style of the book with the blues contrasted with the bright reds and purples or the bird. The friendly fourth little guy is cute, and the other three's ill-fated attempts are entertaining. Much of the text is repeated so little ones can catch on and "read" along. Also a good book to talk about compare and contrast with the obvious color differences and the tactics.
What do You think about Ssst! We Hebben Een Plan (2014)?
Cute book. Best part of this book . . . "Ready one ready two ready three."
