This is the 4th in the Cackleberry Club mystery series written by Laura Childs. The story opens with the murder of banker, Ben Busacker. His snowmobile hits the back of the Cackleberry Club. Suzanne goes out to see what happens and finds Ben decapitated. Turns out someone had stretched out some wire in order to get Ben while he was on his way. There are many suspects with all good reasons for killing Ben Busacker. A runaway boy, Colby, may hold all the answers. Suzanne and Sheriff Roy Doogie need to figure out who is responsible before the winter Fire & Ice carnival. All the characters are back: Carmen, Petra, Toni, Junior and Sam. This series is good fun read that keeps you guessing until the very end. What a shame: after the brilliant teashop mystery series from Laura Childs which I loved, this book was such a disappointment to me. The Cackleberry Club series is new to me, and sadly I won't be reading any more if this is anything to go by. I found it less than intriguing, very predictable (I guessed the murderer as soon as he was introduced!), and actually badly written. So different from the Charleston teashop series...
What do You think about Stake & Eggs (2012)?
A great series and enjoyable to read although not much of a mystery

It was a small town murder mystery that was cute and a quick read.
