Sudden Response is just another reason why I should name my first born after its brilliant author. Well what's not to love when you have a duo that equally cracks you up and melts your heart. Eric and Joe have been best friends for more than 2 decades so naturally they act close and protective of each other even as they irritate the heck out of each other and even verbally spar at every opportunity, which is so cute and funny that I ended up laughing despite it being 4am just 'cause I can't stop reading. As for their deep abiding love for each other, I find it very moving that they can both throw away whatever they want just to give what they think is best for the other. The plot is light and uncomplicated but make no mistake, this book is just as awesome, if not more so, than others. Another feel good novel that will remind you why you keep on falling in love with R.L Mathewson. I feel like such a critique right now because this book on the whole wasn't actually bad.. it just didn't work for me. If I had read it a year ago I would have enjoyed it but right now all these little things nag at me. The gold digger jokes don't sit well with me. The fact that these 30 year olds aren't all that mature kind of bothers me. I cannot over look these tiny details any more and while this book was funny, I wasn't laughing. I spend a lot of the time cringing in embarrassment. One of my biggest issues with this book was all the shamming. Joe is the only 'positive' female character. She is tom-boyish, funny, and gorgeous without realizing it. 'Other women' regard her with disdain for not dressing the same way 'they' do. Stereotypical much? Oh and the constant use of bitch against all the women. UGH. a NIGHTMARE.
