3.5 starsThis is a story between a British author who writes erotic novels and a sweet Lady from the Carolinas. Gavin had led a life of debauchery after a tragic accident involving his son. He was sent to the US to clean up his act. Savannah is trying to make ends meet by juggling several jobs. She ends up as Gavin's cleaning lady when he needed one. Their first meeting was inauspicious to say the least. The sex is hot compared to the first two books. While I can understand why he abandoned Savannah upon learning of her condition, I wish she had made him grovel a bit more. Sugar on the Edge is the third book in Sawyer Bennett's Last Call Series, and is a companion novel that can be read as a standalone. Gavin Cooke is the male main character in the book and is new to the series, while we met Savannah, the female main character in the previous novels, which I loved by the way. In On the Rocks and Make it a Double we met the twins, Hot Hunter and Broody Brody, which both will take your breath away. In Sugar on the Edge, we get up close and personal with Gavin Cooke, who is a much darker character. He's a British author who is wealthy, arrogant, and rude, but also extremely hot and oozes with the darker side of sexy. He has come to the Outer Banks to get away from all his "debauchery," so that he can finish his current novel and get it to the publisher. While very intimidating, Gavin also has a painful history that has shaped him into the man he is. Savannah Shepard is a really sweet person who is trying to make ends meet, which is how she ends up working for Gavin Cooke. He finds her mysterious and intriguing, and she soon learns that he brings out a side in her that she didn't know she even harbored. Gavin and Savannah have an intense chemistry and things are very hot, while somewhat darker on the sexual side of the novel, which is part of Gavin's nature. As the relationship progresses, Gavin finds that he just can't get enough of this woman who is beautiful, sweet, and a little sassy, and nothing at all like the type of woman he usually goes for, while Savannah is learning to live on the wild side. We also get to see the characters from the previous books, which I really enjoyed. Things seem to be going great when something happens that causes past fears to rise up, threatening to destroy it all, but will Gavin come to his senses, and will it be too little too late for any hope of making things right. I really loved Sugar on the Edge and Sawyer Bennett has delivered yet another captivating romance, while taking her readers on a ride that is a little on the dark side and a whole lot of sexy. The romance is great, the story is wonderfully written, and the characters are awesome. If you love contemporary romance, then you will definitely want to check this out.
