Super Immunity: The Essential Nutrition Guide For Boosting Your Body's Defenses To Live Longer, Stronger, And Disease Free (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Well, it's interesting. But also incredibly depressing. Someone asked me to sum up what the book said and it boils down to 'So yeah, eat more blue fruit and leafy greens, because all that other stuff called food is gonna either kill ya or give you cancer. oh, and good luck with that.' Of course Mr. Fuhrman is not nearly as flippant or cynical as I am. He's much more polite when describing his take on all the research about nutrition. But I have to admit after reading this, a person can definitely lose their appetite. I enjoyed Dr. Fuhrman's book very much. I especially liked the chapters near the end of the book where he discusses the science of various eating patterns, trying to divorce his views from the politics and cultural hype that surrounds eating for most of us. I haven't tried any of his recipes yet; all of his books contain plant-based recipes to help people implement a diet heavily focused on plant foods. Fuhrman is one of several contemporary physicians who advocate for a vegan/plant-based diet. He and Ornish are the more flexible of those trying to push people toward greater health. As a nurse practitioner, who is looking at ways to help people improve health without the interventions of conventional medicine, I find Furhman a very helpful resource both personally and professionally. Recommend.
