Superimunidade (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book Super Immunity is truly summed up in his byline: The Essential Nutrition Guide for Boosting Your Body’s Defenses to Live Longer, Stronger, and Disease Free. Current nutritional studies are truly giving the public the opportunity to understand just how to eat the healthiest diet possible. Regardless of whether you like the message or not, Dr. Fuhrman is an evangelist concerning these studies. He is a defender of what the studies say and doesn’t mince words, but he also is flexible and if a new study suggests something new he will change his opinion – a trait that I feel is true integrity, because it honors the science. Super Immunity’s first five chapters discuss food, nutrition, the food science, and medicine and what you need to know. The book is annotated with endnotes throughout. Chapter six of the book talks about making the right choices and chapter seven gives you menus and recipes. There is also a glossary and an index starting on page 281 (I know numerous people complained about a missing index).I would give the book 4 stars if you have already read some of Dr. Fuhrman’s other books before, because much of the nutritional advice is redundant. Also, if you are thinking about the additional menus and recipes I would suggest his Eat To Live Cookbook, or his Eat For Health, which might be better suited for only those recipe needs. However, if you are looking to read only one book about nutrition or one book by Dr. Fuhrman, then this is a five star book because it gives you everything in one place and has current information in it. Very simply put: if you want to learn how to eat healthy (and lose weight easily in the process) this is a great place to start! You may not need to read another book. The progenitor of ANDI score has summarized his recommendations for better immunity as follows:1. high-nutrient vegan diet, rich in green vegetables2. Blended salad and/or vegetable juices (leafy green) to increase absorption of phytochemicals3. Supplementation: EPA/DHA, beneficial bowel flora, anti-inflammatory substance from natural sources such as turmeric, ginger, and other bioflavonoids, multivitamin, plus additional vitamin D4. Avoid salt, wheat, oil and concentrated sweets. Taken in its full extend, this is a very severe vegan diet which is1. green vegetables, some cooked (without salt and oil), some in raw form (salad or juice)2. limited supplement: multivitamin, D, probiotics, fish oil, some natural spicesThe challenge is how to make it possible into a lifestyle instead of short burst diet regiment. Given the food rich environment with artificially heightened food engineering which are diametrically opposite to these suggestions, his recommendation requires a complete overhaul of typical eating preference and even the whole mindset.
