(3.5 Stars)I must confess, I am still digesting "Sweet Blood of Mine." There we're aspects of this read I truly enjoyed such as the unique storyline and the characters but there were also things that I felt were mediocre.High School student, Justin Case is a nerd, chubbette. He is virtually invisible at school but he has a big heart. When a girl he has had a crush on for years is attacked by one of the football gods, he comes to her aide even though he will be pummeled. Although she is grateful, she soon turns on Jason and then the strange Goth girl takes an interest in him.If all of this is not enough, Justin's parents begin acting strangely, he begins undergoing a strange physical transformation, and a strange vampire like woman is threatening to eat him all and rock his world. Justin quickly realizes things are definitely not as they seem and what he thought he knew about himself couldn't be further from the truth. There are some truly fun moments in this book filled with plenty of humor, wildly creative characters and tension galore. There is also plenty of action. However, where I had problems was the overly delayed big reveal about Justin's secret. There were times I felt as though the author was stalling rather than moving the plot forward. I purchased the two book set so I will go on to read the next book in this series but a couple of my favorite authors have recently released new installments of series I enjoy; so, I will read those first. it had some very funny one liners. on a whole it was a little eh. not too bad, not too good. I love male pov. I would like to see a lot more in ya. but what the chronicles of Nick does almost to perfection and vicious deep does to gasping for breath hilarity, sweet blood of mine does ok. the plot is ok, I just think some of the stereotyping is a bit over the top. I like that boy wonder doesn't go to insta stud and that main love interest is into him even when he is an imperfect dork. yay for dorks everywhere.
