The novellas in this series fast and a little off for me. I wanted to like this one better because the plot was more normal, but the twins connection was way too strange and difficult for me to understand. Eve was great in the investigation and she made everyone work together, but the kidnapping of children is always the worst for police to investigate. The story was short and fast, nothing too expressive for this series and could be read as a stand alone without problems. 2.75 out of 5I wanted to sample the Eve Dallas "In Death" series, but instead of starting out with #1 (Naked Death), I chose this novella. I really want to like this series and I do think that I could be won over. However, the narrator was a big distraction for me and the book lost 1-2 stars because of that. The story is a modern day telling of Hansel and Gretel. I appreciated the way that the author adapted the tale for the mid 21st century New York City setting. Like the original, the story is dark and, well, Grimm. The narration is often over the top and failed in what I consider to be the prime directive of narration, "Get out of the way and disappear into the story". The best parts were the voicing of the children and the very end of the story at the resolution when things slowed down and no one was shouting or emoting.

Finally a crackling novella from Robb. Taken in Death was crisp, precise and edge of the seat.
