Taking The Lead: Lessons From A Life In Motion (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I can't believe how much I loved this book! I've seen Derek on DWTS, and I'm not surprised to find him so inspirational. It takes a special kind of person to focus on the positive and bring out the best in other people. He covers everything from conquering your fears to being a leader - even exercise and nutrition. Keep on doing what you're doing, Derek! The world needs more positivity! My only complaint was the book was too short :-) Although I have enjoyed watching Derek on Dancing with the Stars since his first appearance, I was not necessarily certain that his book would hold my interest. I've read the memoirs of many celebrities I admire and lost interest. Such was not the case with Taking the Lead. I read the book in two days and found far more than just the routine divulging of "behind the scenes" stories. Derek exposes his philosophies and inspirational theories in a manner that those of all ages can benefit. At approximately three-times his age, I made note of many statements to store in my reserve of motivational tools. He not only provides his secrets to life, he also shows how they have been applied in his personal journey. I would definitely recommend this book for both pleasurable reading and inspirational reference.
